As the controversy over the Adjutant General of the Iowa National Guard intensifies in the press, Governor Ray called the Commanding General into his office. Late in the evening, Amb. Quinn recalls how the governor relieves him of command following which he escorts him from the building. At 10 pm, the governor asks Amb. Quinn’s view about the next step to which he recommends appointing the head of the Iowa Air Force National Guard to temporarily assume command. In a dramatic conclusion to the entire episode, Amb. Quinn then phones General Roger Gilbert to inform him that he is in charge.
