Amb. Quinn tells how he learned how to identify the telltale signs of Vietcong troop movement throughout the insurgent’s base area in Duc Ton District. He did so by flying missions with the U.S. army single engine, fixed-wing plane, piloted by Capt. Zak who went by the call sign Swamp Fox. Amb. Quinn learned how to detect the routes and hiding places used by Vietcong units that traveled at night by sampan along the multiple canals in the district. He used this intelligence to provide targets during “Last Light” helicopter operations.
