As 1979 ended, Amb. Quinn said the expectation was that so too would the contributions from Iowans to the Iowa SHARES campaign. However, money from individuals across the state, including from schools, churches and temples, continued to flow in providing additional means to assist with life-saving efforts. Dr. Bill Rosenfeld, a physician from Mason City, volunteered to go to Thailand as did several nurses. Amb. Quinn describes how the Iowa SHARES campaign supported their travel and upkeep so they could provide life-saving medical assistance at a makeshift hospital at a place called Kaho-I-Dang. Close to $2 million in 2019 terms was raised by Iowa SHARES, with all but one contribution coming from individual Iowa citizens.
