Protecting Cambodian Americans During the Violence

185/7/97

As the Fourth of July weekend fighting continued, the FUNCINPEC forces began to retreat and break apart. As there were a number of Cambodian-American citizens within that movement, a number of them began flowing to the U.S. Embassy seeking protection. Amb. Quinn describes how he and other embassy officers walked into the battle zones going house to house trying to find the Cambodia-American officials who were hiding. Later they would secretly admit them into the embassy and then take them to safe havens and eventually onto planes, so they could fly out of the country.
