Refugees: the Great Humanitarian Legacy of the Papal Visit of Pope John Paul II's Visit to Iowa

91/4/05

Almost 26 years after his visit to Living History Farms, Pope John Paul II was near death. Amb. Quinn recounts a story told to him by the then Catholic Bishop of Des Moines Joseph Charron. The only three words spoken by the frail Pontiff to Bishop Charron constitute an amazing tribute to Governor Robert Ray and the humanitarian spirit of Iowa. Amb. Quinn concludes that those three words constitute a fitting legacy about the year 1979.
