Amb. Quinn describes how he arrives in Des Moines with a recurrence of a debilitating affliction that had plagued him throughout Vietnam and Washington, D.C.—severe low back syndrome. Pinched nerves in his back bone would cause him to be twisted over and unable to stand up straight. In Vietnam he had to be medically evacuated, carried to the helicopter on a door “like a dead Viking warrior.” Now he is desperately seeking a miracle.
