The Day Nixon Resigned: Witness to History

215/8/74

Amb. Quinn describes his unexpected front row seat at the resignation of President Richard Nixon and describes his infamous exit from the White House on August 9th, 1974. All White House personnel and NSC staff were invited to the East Room where Pres. Nixon gives his farewell remarks in front of a phalanx of press photographers. Then, boarding a helicopter for the short flight to Andrews Air Force Base, Amb. Quinn recounts watching from a White House balcony as Nixon's helicopter is juxtaposed between the Washington Monument and Jefferson's Memorial. Then in just a few moments, Nixon is gone from sight but Washington and Jefferson remain.
