Unable to sleep due to jet lag, Amb. Quinn describes how he wandered about the streets of Hanoi before dawn just to explore the city. He was startled to come upon a Catholic church with its doors open. And entering the edifice, he is mesmerized by the group of Vietnamese worshippers who are chanting prayers and filling the candle-lit church with a haunting sound. Quinn came away deeply impressed that even a strict Communist regime could not fully crush the religious spirit within the people.
