In March 1974, a plane landed in Chau Doc with orders transferring Amb. Quinn to the National Security Council at the White House. This sets in motion the process for him to be married to his Vietnamese fiancé Le Son Nguyen. Amb. Quinn explains how the U.S. government had to do an extensive background check before granting a security clearance to her. At the same time, the Vietnamese cultural tradition required them to consult an astrologist who could calculate the most propitious day on which to have the wedding ceremony. He describes how in dealing with this conundrum, they end up with two wedding anniversaries but no honeymoon.
