Amb. Quinn describes how different his Foreign Service career was from his original vision of diplomatic receptions in European ballrooms. He remembers that he was shot at, rocketed, wounded, or under death threat in every foreign assignment he had during his 32-year diplomatic career. One of those instances came in 1970 when he was wounded by a 122mm North Vietnamese rocket that hit the Majestic Hotel in Saigon while he was on the rooftop veranda.
