Transforming Cambodia’s “Killing Fields” into Farm Fields: American Diplomacy and Combatting Genocide

Ambassador Quinn reflects on the 30th anniversary of the Paris Peace Agreement on Cambodia, which ended years of war and the devastating Khmer Rouge "Killing Fields." He discusses the challenging diplomatic landscape in the early 1990s when the U.S. He outlines a three-part diplomatic strategy aimed at ending Cambodia's civil war, improving relations with Vietnam, and preventing the Khmer Rouge from returning to power. Ambassador Quinn highlights the critical role of the Paris Peace Agreements in bringing 18 countries and Cambodian factions together to establish a transitional UN authority, ceasefires, and political reforms in Cambodia.
